Fehmida calls for joint efforts to control diabetes
ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 APP: Speaker National Assembly, Dr Fehmida Thursday called for need of joint efforts to stop spread of global occurrence of chronic disease like diabetes
In a message issued on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, being observed throughout the globe Friday tomorrow, she urged the World Health Organization WHO, diabetes organizations, NGOs and health departments for concerted efforts to promote awareness against diabetes
Dr Fehmida Mirza said World Diabetes Day serves as an opportunity to promote awareness that every person with diabetes or at risk of diabetes deserves the best possible quality of education, prevention and care available
She said a comprehensive strategy should be adopted to set norms and standards, promote surveillance, encourage prevention, raise awareness and strengthen prevention and control of this fatal disease

She called upon the federal and provincial healthcare agencies for focusing on the segments of disadvantaged communities and vulnerable groups within the country with particular attention on populations migrating from rural to urban
