Ovitt Supports Walk to Cure Diabetes
San Bernardino- Supervisor Gary Ovitt pledged his commitment to help raise awareness for the Walk to Cure Diabetes at the County Board of Supervisors Meeting on Tuesday August 1st The Walk to Cure Diabetes is a community effort that will provide hope to millions who suffer from this disease, and allow the scientific community the necessary funding to find the cure that is within our reach, stated Ovitt Supervisor Ovitt continues the Countys 20 year commitment to raise funds to further research a cure, and disseminate information to children and nurses The Regional Parks Department began working with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in 1999 to provide facilities for an event that would inform the communities about juvenile diabetes Approximately 1500 citizens attended and took part in the 2005 Walk and over 256K was raised It is estimated that over 2000 people will be in attendance this year, and expectations are
high that this years total should exceed donations from last year The Walk to Cure Diabetes is scheduled for September 30th from 8:30am to 3:00 pm and will take place at the Cucamonga Guasti Regional Park in the City of Ontario Supervisor Ovitt stated, I am very proud of our County employees who participated in last years walk I encourage every County employee to do their part in helping us combat this deadly disease by participating in this years walk It is estimated that over 18 million Americans suffer from diabetes yearly, which can lead to further complications of heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, loss of nerve function and amputation For additional information please contact Supervisor Ovitts District Office at 909-465-1895
