Learn to take charge Living with diabetes often means making changes in your lifestyle Instructors review all areas of good living, and help you learn more about making good choices in diet, exercise, medication options, foot care, dental care and eye care Its fun Between your classmates and our instructors, you will find the classes enjoyable Many of our past participants have become friends and have helped each other live well with diabetes In addition, you may bring a spouse, relative or friend to all sessions, if you prefer Its a great program The 12-hour is approved by the American Diabetes Association and has been a mainstay of Betsy Johnson Regional Hospitals patient education programs for over seven years The seven-week program is taught by a team of medical professionals It meets the national standards of the American Diabetes Association for instruction in helping you manage your diabetes yourself
Who are the instructors?
Pharmacist Melanie Durham, a doctor of pharmacy with Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital who is
certified in diabetes education Physical Therapist Loretta Holmes, of the Rehabilitation Wellness staff at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital Registered Nurse Carol McLamb, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and certification in diabetes education Registered Dietitian Shaunna Prince, is the Program Director for Living Well with Diabetes She is also a licensed dietitian/nutritionist at Betsy Johnson and is certified in diabetes education Throughout your Living Well with Diabetes course, all of these instructors will be available to answer your questions
What is the cost?

What does this course include?
An
individual consultation with an instructor is your first step in the program Your spouse, relative or friend may come to all sessions, if you prefer Following this consultation are seven classes on a variety of important and relevant topics: 1 Introduction to diabetes, including blood sugar testing and other topics to help you take charge 2 Meal Planning: Introduction 3 Meal Planning: Put it into practice 4 Take Charge Trio of Topics: Changing behaviors from bad to great; managing stress to keep you on track; and preventing complications 5 Diabetes, medications and standards of care 6 Preventing chronic complications, from head to toe: foot, skin and dental care 7 Exercise your body as everyone should Finally, you will receive an individual follow-up session
