Dining With Diabetes Program Offered
GALION - The Ohio State University Extension office in Crawford
County and Galion Community Hospital will unite to offer a Dining with
Diabetes program beginning Tuesday, October 28 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the
GCH small dining room Skipping Election Day, the series of three programs
will continue on November 11 and November 18 The program is open to those
with diabetes and their loved ones The 25 per person registration charge
40 per couple includes all three classes, dinner and educational
materials Space is limited and pre-registration is required
Delivered in a cooking school format, the program will show participants
how to prepare meals that taste good, and are healthy and convenient to
prepare with easily found ingredients Recipes will be demonstrated by the
hospitals chef, Mark Koenig, and attendees will
have the opportunity to
taste each one Program members will also learn up-to-date information on
nutrition and meal planning, exercise, and understanding common diabetes-
related medical tests Recipe booklets and handouts will be given to each
participant or couple
The educational part of the Dining with Diabetes program will be presented
by Crawford County OSU Extension Educator, Jennifer Hartzler, along with
Wendy Butz, RN, BSN, Galion Community Hospital Education Department
Manager Ms Butz is also a Certified Diabetes Educator
Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown that
those who manage their blood sugar levels, eat a healthy diet, and exercise
regularly can lower their risk of complications and lead a healthier and
more productive life
