DIABETES is an insidious disease that affects EVERY PART of the human body causing heart attacks and strokes, leading to amputation of limbs, slowly destroying vision, damaging the kidneys, and often leading to death if not diagnosed and managed properly It affects not only the lives of those who have diabetes, but their FAMILIES, COMMUNITIES and the overall health of our NATION Nationally, diabetes is now considered an EPIDEMIC In Oklahoma, over 220,000 people have been DIAGNOSED with diabetes There are thousands more who have not yet been identified The PREVALENCE of diabetes is INCREASING, and the need for prevention and management programs has become critical

Camp Endres
kids with diabetes often feel very alone Unlike their friends, they live in a world of fingersticks, insulin injections and pumps They must try to live NORMAL LIVES without losing sight of the fact that they are battling a very seriouseven life-threatening disease Pretty tough when youre a kid CAMP ENDRES is a summer residential camp for kids ages 8-16 with diabetes During the week-long camp, speciallytrained diabetes counselors help the kids learn how to manage the disease, make wise food choices, monitor blood glucose levels and live life to the fullest kids learn while participating
in age-appropriate activities like horseback riding, hiking, swimming, boating, archery, volleyball, arts and crafts By the end of camp, 
they have developed bonds and gathered information that will last a lifetime
Winter Camp Endres
Teens with diabetes often avoid physical activities because theyre afraid of the impact on blood glucose levels And they feel very isolated because their friends without diabetes simply cant understand the challenges they face each day Thats where wINTER CAMP ENDRES comes in Young people, ages 13-21, with Type 1 diabetes can learn how to have an active, healthy lifestyle while managing the disease Two weekend ski trips to ANGEL FIRE, NEw MExICO, give teens a chance to learn to ski while developing self-esteem and independence
