History

In 1970, eight local health agencies created the Combined Health Agencies
Drive thus the birth of the acronym CHAD and that first year shared the
6,775 raised in workplace campaigns through payroll deductions

In the spring of 1972, the Combined Health Agencies Drive CHAD and United
Community Services former name of United Way of San Diego began
negotiations on a joint campaign in response to companies requesting both
campaigns be conducted at the same time The first joint
campaign took
place in 1974 and raised 75 million in sharable income

Today, Combined Health Agencies receives designated funds and a percentage
of the undesignated funds raised by the United Way/CHAD Work place
Campaign

In 2004, the campaign contract agreement between the United Way of San
Diego County and the Combined Health Agencies was amended, extending the
agreement from 2008 through June 30, 2010
Combined Health Agencies remains a strong force in the community, dedicated
to improving the quality of health of all San Diego County residents
