Diabetes
From
the 11/03 Braille Monitor
Voice of the Diabetic newsletter as been published by the NFB four times
a year for the past 17 years Current circulation is over 300,000
Because diabetes is the leading cause of new blindness among working age
Americans, members of the NFB founded the Diabetes Action Network in July
of 1985
The Network works closely with all NFB affiliates and reaches out to
thousands who might not otherwise encounter the Federation
The Voice of the Diabetic is available in standard print, and four track
audio cassette and on the web at wwwnfborg/voicehtm is offered free as a
public service to diabetics, health professionals, families , friends, and
anyone else interested in the condition Many individuals and businesses
also set out multiple copies in public places such as doctors offices,
hospitals, and libraries
The focus is on living with the condition Articles discuss research,
coping tools and strategies, success stories, and individuals whose
attitudes and achievements can serve as positive inspiration Diabetics are
shown, that regardless of complications, they are not alone and do have
options
Each newsletter contains articles sent by individuals and
health
professionals Recipes are also included, columns of tidbit articles, news
releases, diabetes education and exercise advice and medical questions
answered by insulin dependant physicians The NFB tries to list the latest
studies and trials,
