NOV - DIABETES MONTH November is American Diabetes Month, a time to
communicate the seriousness of diabetes and the
importance of proper diabetes control This year, ADM
focuses on the deadly complications of diabetes and
asks the American public Why should you care about
diabetes? Throughout the month, ADM leverages
opportunities both nationally and locally to raise
awareness about diabetes and its serious
complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney
disease, blindness and amputations
In 2007 and 2008, the theme of World Diabetes Day is
Diabetes in Children and Adolescents Diabetes is
one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood
Type 1 diabetes is growing by 3 per year in
children and adolescents, and at an alarming 5 per
year among pre-school children It is estimated that
70,000 children under 15 develop type 1 diabetes each
year almost 200 children per day Currently, an
estimated 440,000 children live with type 1 diabetes
globally Type 2 diabetes was once seen as a disease
of adults but today,
it is growing at alarming rates
in children and adolescents
Be sure that your family is aware of the signs of this disease and
keep
informed as to what steps need to be taken to keep it
under control It can be a very debilitating
disease I have become acquainted with one of these
individuals at the Crossville Wellness Center and I
have been quite impressed by his successes by
watching his diet and exercising regularly It can
be done
LIONS RE-BRANDING Lions International President Al Brandel is
asking for support from
Lions throughout the world on the new re-branding effort In order
to attract high-quality new members to our clubs we
must be able to clearly articulate who we are and why
we are important The eight core messages of the re-
branding process are our way of doing that I ask
every Lion to commit them to memory and to bring
them
to the attention of fellow Lions and the communities
that we serve
The eight core messages are:
1 We are global
2 We serve where we live
3 We give 100 percent
4 We do it ourselves
5 We are rich in heritage and pride
6 We are in good company
7 Were open
8 We are dedicated to sight - and more

them to get donations
Our used eyeglasses are now being taken to
Lenscrafter at Knoxville for grading and cleaning
A reminder from Jerry McBride that the club is still collecting used
ink cartridges and cell phones Proceeds of this are
used by Tennessee Lions Chairities to help fund the
KidSight program

perfect attendance for the past year and has
